Deafheaven announce Australia & New Zealand tour

American shoegaze-meets-black-metal trailblazers DEAFHEAVEN have announced their most extensive Australian & New Zealand headline tour to date.

Deafheaven’s first visit in over four years will see them play in Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne, as well as Wellington and Auckland NZ, before wrapping up at Hobart’s Dark Mofo.

After having to cancel last year's festival appearance, there will be some very excited punters ready to see them this year (James raises both hands). The band will play multiple shows in Melbourne & Perth, as well as their biggest-ever headline shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.

The band are touring in support of their acclaimed new album ‘Infinite Granite.’ The record features some of their finest melodic songwriting to date, whilst exploring less intense sonic territory than their previous records.

From the uplift of ‘Great Mass of Color’ to the brooding ‘In Blur’, the record is awash with lush soundscapes conjured by the band and anchored by singer George Clarke’s startlingly impressive melodic tenor and multi-part harmonies.

Deafheaven’s live show continues to be a juxtaposition of epic proportions and this tour will be no exception, with five diverse studio albums to draw from. The band will also celebrate 10 years of their seminal ‘blackgaze’ record ‘Sunbather’ by performing it in full exclusively at Dark Mofo Festival.

Joining the tour for all east coast shows will be Australian alternative rock quintet Closure in Moscow. With their recent single ‘Better Way’ the cult Melbourne band have signalled a return to their melodic, hook-laden roots and will release their new album ‘Soft Hell’ in late 2023.

Also in support will be Melbourne band RUN, featuring frontman Lochlan Watt (Triple j’s The Racket, Nuclear Summer, Colossvs, Thy Art Is Murder). Their new single ‘Iris’ (a cover of the Goo Goo Dolls classic) is an intense collision of black metal, 90s alt-rock, post-metal and metalcore – a perfect fit for this bill.

Opening in Melbourne will be Suldusk, whose gothic-acoustic sound has earned them a worldwide following purely by word of mouth.

Support in Perth comes from doom-jazz quartet Tangled Thoughts of Leaving. Known for their fiery and intense live performances, they will be releasing their first new material in 5 years in the coming weeks.
