‘die, die, die’ now that we have your attention. Slipknot announce’ the end, so far’ with new single ‘the dying song’
New masks, new single, new video & a new record title, it’s all happening today. Slipknot have been hinting for what seems like forever now about a new record. After ‘The Chapeltown Rag’ smashed our ears last year we’ve all been waiting to hear what’s next and today we got that anwser.
With every new Slipknot record comes hype. Weather it’s positive or negative there is no way to escape it. If it’s not an ageing crowd who can’t accept a band like slipknot has been around for two decades and might sound a little different after all this time or those of us who enjoy the theatre show that the band has always been. There will always be hype.
I for one loved ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ when a lot of people at least in my circles didn’t. With that I also love the direction ‘The End, So Far’ sounds like it’s going. ‘The Dying Song (Time To Sing)’ kicks in with a ridiculously catchy opening line for Corey Taylor “Put Your Hands Into The Water- Let Your Mouth Go Sick And Dry. Put Your Life Into Your Death Now- Let Them Sing Until You Die, DIE!'“ followed by and equally as catchy riff before hitting like a drop kick to the chest straight into a neck breaking verse. This song has it all and all nine members get a proper chance to flex on this track. From Jim Root’s epic solo, Jay Weinberg’s insane chops, Corey’s masterful vocal phrasing, even Alex Venturella rips a small bass solo (I could talk about that juicy tone all day). Then there’s the video. Directed by the visual mastermind Michael Shawn Crahan (aka “Clown”). A mostly performance based clip still is another level above the game with shots cutting between the members in a mirrored room showcasing all the new masks including the usual stand out DJ Sid Wilson’s wild new mask. With a shot showing him seemingly holding is head from the previous record cycle over the turntables with mechanical arms . Check it out below.
