Mastodon have shared "Your Ghost Again", an unexpectedly tender single that the band say was written during a difficult period marked by personal loss.

The track pairs Troy Sanders and Brann Dailor’s traded vocals with Bill Kelliher and new guitarist Nick Johnston’s alternately moody and bombastic guitars, plus keyboards from João Nogueira. Production credits include Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou; Andrew Scheps handled the mix.

Drummer Brann Dailor, discussing the song, framed it around memory and sudden flashes of presence after loss: "When we were in the studio recording, I kept seeing Brent... It’s those moments when you’re in those familiar places that you’ve always been with that person, and then, after they’re gone, you see them out of the corner of your eye."

The single arrives as Mastodon finish work on their next full length, their first since 2021’s Hushed and Grim, and accompanies the announcement of The Poisonous Weapons Tour, a North American run with Deafheaven and Alcest.

The tour is scheduled to open in Orlando and conclude at Sick New World in Dallas later this year; the band say the run follows their ongoing European festival and headline dates.

Your Ghost Again is out now on Loma Vista Recordings.
