Destruction of the Healer Share New Single ‘Sekhmet’

‘Sekhmet’ Offers Another Glimpse Into Destruction of the Healer’s Upcoming Album A Universe Bereaved

Australian melodic death metal band Destruction of the Healerhave released ‘Sekhmet’, the second single from their forthcoming album A Universe Bereaved, due out July 9.

Following the technical aggression of previous single ‘Bestial Hunger’, ‘Sekhmet’ showcases another side of the band's evolving sound. Drawing influence from the war-driven heaviness of Bolt Thrower and the Egyptian-inspired atmosphere of Nile, the track balances crushing death metal riffs with melodic passages and ominous tension.

Named after the Egyptian goddess of healing and destruction, ‘Sekhmet’ explores themes of collapse, renewal and humanity's extinction. The song presents destruction not simply as an ending, but as a force that allows something new to emerge in its wake.

The single also offers another glimpse into A Universe Bereaved, an album that sees the Sydney band pushing further into brutal death metal territory while retaining the melodic and atmospheric elements that have shaped their sound since 2021's The Living World Can't See. Across the record, themes shift between intimate human experiences and larger existential questions, with each track exploring its own distinct narrative.

Destruction of the Healer have built a reputation within Australia's underground metal scene through a fiercely independent approach. The band recorded, produced, mixed and mastered A Universe Bereaved largely in-house, maintaining complete creative control while continuing to champion DIY culture and local all-ages heavy music.

With both ‘Bestial Hunger’ and ‘Sekhmet’ now available, A Universe Bereaved is shaping up as a formidable statement from one of Australia's emerging melodic death metal acts.
